Student Scholarships

Purpose: The purpose of the VBIDA Scholarship Fund is to provide funds to a student in need of assistance with funding services that meet the remediation needs of the student.

Qualifications: Applicants qualifying for this award shall be students grades 3 – 12 who demonstrate a need for remediation or other educational services or attending a school that will enhance the student’s ability to overcome the challenges presented by being a person diagnosed with dyslexia.

Max Oley Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is awarded to a student with dyslexia to help offset the expenses for multisensory tutoring as defined by IDA. The proceeds of $1,500 will be distributed directly to the tutor of the student selected.

Before starting the application, please gather a copy of your child’s dyslexia evaluation (to reference the evaluator and year diagnosed), any IEP/504 or list of current accommodations and services, and the names of the reading, spelling, and math programs your child receives (from school or tutor). You will also need one or more supporting documents to upload—either a recommendation letter or a brief written, audio, and/or a video narrative about your child’s experience with dyslexia—as well as your child’s tutor’s contact details. The deadline for applications is July 15, 2026. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by September 30, 2026.

VBIDA General Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a student with dyslexia to help offset the cost of attending a school that serves students with dyslexia. The proceeds of $1,500 will be distributed directly to the school.

Be prepared to list any special education services or accommodations your child receives and to describe the instructional approach used by the school, including the names of any Structured Literacy or multisensory programs if known. You will also need one or more supporting documents to upload—either a recommendation letter or a brief written, audio, and/or a video narrative about your child’s experience with dyslexia. The deadline for applications is July 15, 2026. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by September 30, 2026.

 


Teacher Scholarships and Grants

VBIDA is excited to announce that we will now be offering teacher scholarships and grants for trainings and classroom materials that align with the International Dyslexia Association Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading!! We will be accepting applications on an on-going basis. The application form is a Google form and is linked below:

The maximum award will be $1,000.

The scholarship committee meets throughout the year and will consider applications as they arrive to make recommendations to the full board for a vote.
